ABOUT THE AMA

Established in 1953, the American Marketing Association is a nationally recognized organization, with chapters all over the country. Their goal is to lead the industry in teaching best marketing practices to students and professionals alike.

OUR MISSION

"The AMA strives to be the most relevant force and voice shaping marketing around the world; an essential community for marketers.

In 2015, the “Next AMA” launched four transformational strategies for its North American operations:

The University of Michigan-Dearborn collegiate chapter of the AMA provides students the opportunity for self-development through various leadership opportunities and involvement in professional and organization related projects. We want our graduates to enter the workforce with the confidence, skills, and connections necessary to succeed. This is why we aim to provide students with tools and resources to excel in their professional and academic careers.

 

You don't have to pursue a career in marketing to benefit from all the AMA has to offer! Personal development and networking is crucial for all students. As a member of the AMA, you will have opportunities to tour several Metro-Detroit companies, participate in business skill workshops, and so much more!

NETWORKING

THERE IS POWER IN CONNECTIONS

No matter what your chosen career path may be, it is important to build your network. Students who are involved in extracurricular activities not only stand out to employers, but they can also create powerful connections with the people they meet. For this reason, the AMA at U of M-Dearborn is dedicated to  giving students the opportunity to leave the classroom and explore companies in Detroit and Chicago. We also invite guest speakers from various local corporations to share their expertise, allowing students to get a glimpse into what employers are looking for. These events help students meet potential employers, create powerful connections, and build their personal brand. 

TRAVEL

THE AMA IS EVERYWHERE

As a member of the AMA at U of M-Dearborn, you will have the opportunity to promote your personal brand outside of Detroit.

 

Every fall, the AMA travels to Chicago to tour several different advertising, PR, and marketing firms. But our trips aren't all business! Traveling with the AMA builds a bond between members that will last a lifetime. And this of course, includes a little bit of fun as well. Checking out Chicago restaurants, sight seeing, and shopping are all on our agenda!

In the spring, we also travel to New Orleans to compete at the annual AMA conference. This is a great opportunity for members to exercise their marketing skills and compete against other AMA chapters. How would you like to have a nationally recognized award on your resume?

COMPETITIONS

PUT YOUR SKILLS TO THE TEST

At the national AMA conference, which takes place in New Orleans every March, our members compete in marketing competitions. These competitions pit the our student organization against other AMA chapters around the country. 

These competitions allow you to apply what you've learned at U of M-Dearborn to conquer a real-world marketing problem. This year, the AMA is taking on Mary Kay, a makeup brand that has had challenges reaching the millennial demographic. Our teams will work to give insights and solutions to this problem.

TOURS

DISCOVER YOUR CAREER

Throughout the school year the AMA tours various companies located in Metro-Detroit and Chicago. As marketing students we feel it is important to expose our members to different agencies and provide them with an up close look at the careers they might pursue after graduation. 

Because the AMA at U of M-Dearborn welcomes members of all majors, we strive to incorporate variety in our company selection. Some of our favorite tours include:

VOLUNTEER

THE AMA GIVES BACK

The AMA at U of M-Dearborn takes pride in helping the community. Throughout the year we get involved with various charities that focus their efforts on local causes. Some of our charity work includes:

  • Dearborn Animal Shelter

  • The Give Back Project

  • Gleeners Food Hub

This semester, the AMA will be adopting a family and providing support for the holiday season. If you would like to be involved, join us in our meetings.
