Over the course of the Winter 2019 semester, AMA UM-Dearborn will be hosting a Spotlight Series for its Executive Board (E-Board) members. Hopefully this will give better insight into being an E-Board member, while letting you learn more about them. Enjoy!
What is your major and when do you plan on graduating?
I am a Junior and I will hopefully graduate in 2020.
What marketing/digital marketing do you enjoy to learn about or are very interested in?
I am very interested in being able to present products to possible consumers and as a creative person, it drew me to become a marketing major.
How long you have been a member of the American Marketing Association (AMA)?
I have been a general member since Fall 2018. After one semester on AMA I was lucky enough to make it
onto the Executive Board.
Why did you join the AMA?
I joined AMA in my first year at University of Michigan-Dearborn. I didn’t know too many people at the school so I thought that joining a club would be the perfect way to meet people. AMA was perfect because it was a mix of my major and a friendly way to meet people and collaborate.
What is your position on E-Board?
On E-Board, I am the Director of Advertising. It was a great fit for me because my main career goal is to get into advertising, so this position is giving me good exposure.
Why do you like AMA and E-Board so much?
I like being in AMA because it gives me a look into the future. It is a good way to learn what the real world is when you are interested in a marketing career. I love the fact that we can actually work with local companies to help them succeed while giving us great experience.
How has being a member of AMA and E-Board benefited your personal/professional life?
Being an AMA member has positively affected my personal life as it helped me meet a ton of new friends and even meet people that could help me get a job in the future. Being an E-Board member is a great accomplishment and I am excited to be able to have it on my resume when I am looking for jobs.
How do you think AMA benefits members and why do you think people should join?
I encourage others to join AMA because it is a ton of fun and a great way to gain experience. It is a great way to work in teams, but not get graded on your performance! Most college students' resumes might look a little big bland to a company's recruiters, so adding AMA to it will help spice up your life.
What do you want to do after graduation (specific job, career, etc.)?
After graduation I would love to get a job somewhere in Downtown Detroit, hopefully something in either marketing or advertising. I also want money, like a lot of it.
